Emilio Rivas was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. From the age of sixteen he became interested in the research and presentation of regional dances of Mexico. He began his career by becoming a student of the "School of Fine and Performing Arts" at la Universidad de Guadalajara where he later became a dance member for the "Grupo Folklorico." As a 10-year member of this prestigious institution, he traveled through Mexico and several countries throughout the world. Since 1973, Emilio was integrated to the educational system in several states in the United States. He has taught and conducted workshops in several cultural institutions, colleges, and universities. Emilio has received many recognitions and honors for his contributions as a dance instructor and choreographer, and for his contributions to the artistic culture.
